About Our Parish
Founded by the Missionaries of the Company of Mary (Montfort Fathers) in 1904, St. Mary Gate of Heaven Parish has celebrated over 100 years as a dynamic Catholic community of fellowship, faith, spirituality and service.
Originally the parish consisted of a nucleus of about 80 families and these simple beginnings have borne much fruit in giving rise to the large and ethnically diverse parish which has been the spiritual home of so many thousands of families for more than a century.
Presently SMGH has a membership of approximately 1400 families. About 500 children attend the parish school and another 300 children are enrolled in the parish religious education programs. We are a bi-lingual community with Mass and prayer being celebrated in both English and Spanish each week.
Its blue green roof easily visible throughout our neighborhood, St. Mary Gate of Heaven Church is an Ozone Park landmark and its bells sound an inviting call to prayer each Sunday as the community gathers for the celebration of Holy Mass.
The church itself is an artistic treasure possessing a remarkable collection of stained glass windows, a moving set of hand painted Stations of the Cross and a number of beautiful wood and stone statues all combined in harmony with a majestic main altar into a rich synthesis of Catholic belief and the praise of almighty God.
